LAIFC fencers won silver and bronze medals at this year’s Junior Olympic Fencing Championships which concluded on Monday at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition to the medal winners, seven LAIFC fencers finished in the top eight of their respected competitions. With nearly 2,000 entries, the JOFC is one of the largest fencing tournaments for athletes ages 20 and younger in the United States with fencers competing in individual and team events in each of the three weapons: epee, foil and saber. Cadet (U17) and junior (U20) individual events will be contested as well as junior team events.
This is the final qualifying tournament for the 2012 Junior and Cadet World Championships in Moscow. The Junior Olympic Fencing Championships plays an important role in selecting the teams that will compete in Moscow. At the conclusion of each individual event this weekend, the top three athletes in the team standings for each weapon squad on the National Point Rankings will be named to compete in individual competition at the Junior & Cadet Worlds in Russia (March 31 – April 9).
